What is unique about Lutheran education? What particularly is unique about Zion Lutheran School? The first premise of Lutheran education in general, and Zion Lutheran School, is to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord. For more than 100 years, Zion Lutheran School has actively sought to make new disciples through the proclamation of God’s promises. Read Rev. William Beckman on “Why the Lutheran School Matters”.
A balance of God’s convicting Law and saving Gospel permeates the school atmosphere. How we, as a group of teachers and leaders, deal with a multitude of situations is guided by a clear understanding that the Law shows us where we have gone wrong, and the Gospel reminds us that Jesus died for our sins. We are forgiven. Jesus Christ is our Lord – the beginning and the end. He is the reason for our existence. Difficulties in church, community, and school are traced to the reality that we humans are unable to keep this focus the center of life. Evil, in both subtle and obvious ways, attempts to distract people from God’s focus. Vigilance to the Gospel message is our school’s best friend. Zion Lutheran School keeps this evangelical purpose in before it at all times. In partnership with our school community we not only live under God’s Law, but we also live in God’s grace, knowing and believing that Jesus has fulfilled the Law for us and has given us hope for eternity. We know who we are through the saving grace of our Savior.
Zion Lutheran School is not just a private school but rather a Christian educational institution that is open to everyone. We welcome all to come to Zion Lutheran School and be a part of the family of Christ just as Jesus welcomes anyone to come to Him. Children and their families who become part of Zion Lutheran School community reap the benefits of learning by applying the Biblical truths of their experience and education. It is, indeed, our duty and profound privilege as educators and parents to give our children a rock-solid faith
foundation and education.
Though fear of the world and its secular influences may drive parents to seek Christian education, this should not be the primary reason to seek Zion Lutheran School. The vital function of our school is to fulfill the word of Matthew 28:19, 20 – Therefore go out and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age.
